Can you be fined for downloading "illegally"? How is "illegal downloading" monitored?
Q. I know that downloading free eBooks and such is illegal, but can you really get in trouble for "pirating" free stuff? I read free eBook all the time, but I would definitely think twice about it if I knew I could be fined or something. So is it just the website that's fined, or the actual viewer?

A. When two people share a file, their computers connect. P2P software lets you see the other person's IP address. In Limewire, you just go to the monitor tab to see the other person's IP. An IP address is sort of like a mailing address or a telephone number, but for your computer. If the record companies see that you're sharing a lot of illegal music, they will write down that person's IP address. They can tell from the IP address who the ISP is. The ISP is the internet provider, like AOL or Comcast or Verizon. They contact the ISP and find out who the IP address belongs to. Once they get the person's information, they sue them. A typical settlement is usually $2000. The record industry mainly only sues people who are making the… [cont.]

A. you download from microsoft, that ok, you download from grisoft , that ok, all freebies, you download your free antivirus that ok, you dowload from limewire, that ok cause your sharing files with another person. Bit hypercritcal if you don't pay for antivirus and antispwware when the ask for a donation?
