How much will it cost to get a Passat's climatronic climate control system repaired or replaced?
Q. It looks as if my climatronic control is not working properly on my Passat 2001. It does not display the temperature outside. It just comes up as -- C (celcious) It usually reads in F (Fahrenheit). Sometimes, very unusually now, the air kicks in and blows out really cool air. That is why I think there is some sort of sensor problem. Otherwise right now it blows out mostly hot air since it is summer. Does anyone know how much something like this would cost to get fixed at the dealership or elsewhere? I kind of want to know how much I should be spending. Any feedback or experiences would be great! Thanks!

A. I've worked in Volkswagen dealership service departments on and off over a 25 year period, so perhaps I can offer some insight into the situation. Normally, the language change (metric - celcious; english farhenheit) is set thru the digital computer display on the instrument cluster using the control buttons for the menu. (use the owners manual to understand how to set the display, if I try to explain it, you'd probably be more confused). It is possible that the temp sensors that sense the interior temperature aren't working properly. You can override the system some what by selecting maximum cold and have the selector display blowing air out of the dash vents (with the arrow pointing towards the face on the digital display) to… [cont.]

Why does my VW Passat make a clicking noise when starting up the engine?

How do I change the driver side headlight on a 2003 Passat?
Q. There is an "air box" in the way.. I called the VW dealership, and they told me I have to bring it in. They want $210 to install each headlight. Can anyone give me some instructions on how to replace the headlight? The bulbs went out on both sides of my Passat. It sucks!

A. both headlamps out at the same time is common. on the back of the lamp there is a rubber cap that just slips on. remove the cap and rotate the bulbs counter clockwise to remove. leave the wiring connecter on the bulb to hold the retainer on to make removal and installation easier. also inspect the yellow and brown wires to the bulbs for signs of excessive heat. somtimes the wires will melt and cause a poor connection.

Q. The break pedal is pushing way down in order to stop the car and I assume it is something to do with the master cylinder or a leak in the breaking system. It is a 1995 volkswagen passat, v6, with abs. I am just curious as to the general price range for having a repair like this done, parts and labor. Thanks.

A. Assuming that it is the master cylinder, expect about 300$ for the part from Volkswagen, and about 3-5 hours of labor. Roughly 600$ total, not including pads, rotors, shoes, etc that should be replaced at the same time. In your shoes, if I was not able to diagnose and test myself, I would have a brake shop inspect the system and give you their recommendation before going in and saying "Hey, do the master cylinder." A job like that, if you walk in and say hey, I need the master cylinder done, they're going to smile, nod, and do it whether or not you need it. A. If you have any knowledge of the mechanism inside the door then with patience you can use a master lock-out tool set and get the door open. The thing you would want to do with the set is to move the child proof mechanism because that would be the easiest to get to. Snap-On tools sells a set for about $80.00 but if you have access to a Harbor Freight store or something similar then the set can be bought for about $30.00,made overseas of course. The kit contains specially bent and hardened steel rods and metal strips that can be worth their weight in gold.

That being said, because of the increased fuel mileage using premium will only cost you a few cents more. Also using the good stuff will help prevent carbon build up. Do the math. I know in my Jetta there is a difference of 4.2 mpg between regular and premium. that means my total annual cost for fuel is only about $40.00 more and the car is much more fun to drive.

If your car has this feature, all the 4 windows will roll down. The merit of this is convinience get rid of heat acculated after long parking hours on the sun before driving so the AC cooling effect can be felt quick. What would a Slightly damaged 1999 VW Passat be worth?
Q. I can buy a 1999 VW passat For 1900. It needs a rear bumper cover, trunk lid, RH Tail light and both front park lights. It has 127k miles and most options, alloy wheels, tip-tronic Auto, moonroof, 1.8 turbo. Engine light is on, but car runs fine. Because of damage has salvage title. Any help would be great, i really just dont know if it would be worth putting money into.

How to remove Passat Door Panel when locked?
Q. I have a Passat 89 180T and the back door lock (drivers side) broke and child lock is on, we cannot open the door. It is a hassle when putting kids in and out - we have to use the window! Is it possible to remove the door panel when the door is closed, or will the whole door have to be taken off by the hinges? Can I do this or take it to a VW specialist?

A. It'd be a tight squeeze but it's possible. If you can get your arm down between the seat and door you can do it. Someone at a repair shop could definitely do it. You should probably look into getting the lock fixed. On an '89 it shouldn't be too expensive.

A. It'd be a tight squeeze but it's possible. If you can get your arm down between the seat and door you can do it. Someone at a repair shop could definitely do it. You should probably look into getting the lock fixed. On an '89 it shouldn't be too expensive.

Where can I get a Spare Key for a 2005 Passat?
Q. I just bought a 2005 Passat, it only came with one key. I just found out from the VW dealer that it will cost $150 to have the key cut and another $90 to have it programmed. Does anyone know of any other place that I can get a spare key for my car? I'm not up for paying $240 for a spare key. I'm really disappointed in VW. Thanks.

I have a 200 VW passat and my batter is dead?
Q. I recently got banged up my right side door on my passat so i parked it in my driveway and locked all the doors, Well come to find my battery died and i can't unlock my door. I can open the trunk but thats about it. Any suggestions in actually getting in the car to jump start the battery? And the key doesn't unlock the door.
